In the years to come and as the new millenium ages, many important works of art will at least double in value.

As this turn of century phenomenon approaches, people will increasingly grasp for the familiar images of the past as this new age begins.

For this reason, now is the time to protect your treasured works of art.

HHP over the years, with its dedicated staff, has cleaned, restored, repaired and preserved well over thousands of different engravings, lithographs, aquatints, chromolithographs, water-colors and wood-cuts. We know the importance of preserving the quality of the color, the surface of the paper and the tightness of the inking.

Over 25% of the time we say "Don't do a thing to it". You want to maintain your work of art in its most original condition. But, when a stain, foxing, mold, tear or any abrasion endanger its preservation and enjoyment, it is appropriate to have your work restored to its full beauty. This will stop the problem, enhance the beauty, and maintain the value.

Restoration and Paper Conservation Terms

Mold and Foxing - Mold is a fungus spore that eats and discolors the cellulose in shades of purple and brown. Mold is caused by a combination of high humidity, heat, and still air. Foxing is caused by sulphur oxidizing in the paper.

Tears - A tear is a tragic occurence, but our experts have found many ways to reduce the impact with special acid-free paper and other mending techniques.

Sunlight - One of the biggest enemies for any colored work on paper is the effect of ultraviolet light from the sun. When color is gone, it's gone. This is why we use special UV plexiglass along with all acid free material in our museum quality framing, which filters out 99% of the sun's ultraviolet rays.

The life expectancy of plexiglass is about seven years, so please check to see whether it is time to have yours replaced.

If you have a work of art that needs to be restored or protected, please contact us for an estimate.
